Dayton Tourney Empty Dayton Tourney

The Game Haven kicked off a three month long(I think) tournament series last week. The first one attracted fourteen players on a Tuesday of all days, so I had high hopes this Saturday. Unfortunately, only six people showed up to play. Luckily I had only played against two of them before and only once each, so I would still get to play against some new players.

I brought:
Karchev THE TERRIBLE!!!!
~Behemoth
~War Dog
Kovnik Douche Bag
~Beast 09
Winterguard Infantry
+UA
+Wax3
+Joe
Widowmakers
Mechaniks
Ogrun Bokur
pAlexia

Butcher Unleashed
~Demolisher
~Devestator
~War Dog
Black Dragon IFP(w/UA…duh)
+IF Kovnik
Widowmakers
eEyriss
Gorman
Saxon
Ogrun Bokur
Kell Bailoth
MoW Drakhun (no Dismount)
Eliminators

Vlad on a horse…Tier4
~Drago
~Juggernaut
~War Dog
Outriders
Ulhans x2 (max and min)
Drakhun x2 (with Dismount)
Kovnik Markov

I do not think that Horselords is my 3rd masters list, but there were painting points in the league, and it is fun to play…so there you go.

Round one, vs Skorne…Scenario with two rings in the middle.
pHexeris
~Mammoth
~Gladiator
~Raider
~Krae
Agonizer
Willbreaker
Extoller Soulward
Paingivers x2 (max + min)
Bokur and Shamblers
+Taskmaster guy

Rundown:
I get first turn with Horselords and run down his throat. He feats turn one and kills one Ulhan…who ineffectively slaps another and then does 9 damage to a Drakhun. The max Paingivers is screening the Shamblers with Deathmarch on one flank. The other flank has the Krae, and Agonizer with the Mammoth as the anchor. I kill the screening Paingivers, leave the Krae with a few boxes, and kill the Agonizer plus two Paingivers in the back. He then tries to clear the zone he is committing to, but between countercharging Drakhuns and high ARM he cannot get it done. I start scoring at the end of his second turn and he cannot stop the bleeding as I just shove Jacks in front of the Mammoth. Scenario Victory.

Round 2, Destruction
Kromak
~Stalkerx2
~Gorax
~Moonhound
Oona
~Rottergriffin
Wouldshrimp x2
Blackclad Druid
Swamp Gobbers
Stones x2 (with one UA)

Rundown.
My dice were hot all game long, probably hotter than any other game that I have ever played. I get first turn and set up. He advances conservatively, but I get my opening. Karchev slingshots Beast into a Stalker, Gorax, two stones(one from each unit), and the gobbers. I kill the Gorax, freeze and hurt the Stalker, kill both stones and one gobber. He gets a Stalker onto Karchev next turn, but I am ARM 23 and he only does about 15 damage. I eat both his Stalkers next turn, repair all of the damage on Karchev and the game is sealed. I continue to roll amazing until Joe rolls boxcars on Kromak to put him out of his misery. This list was built as a Circle drop and it did not disappoint. I figure that I will see Kromak 4/5 times with B3 in my lineup and this list is built specifically for him, so I am pretty happy with the result.

Round 3, Incursion
Garryth, Blade of Retribution
* Gorgon
* Sylys Wyshnalyrr
Houseguard
* Houseguard Halberdiers Officer & Standard
* Soulless Escort
Lady Aiyana & Master Holt
Arcanist
Dawnguard Destor Thane
Dawnguard Destor Thane
Eiryss, Angel of Retribution
Fane Knight Skeryth Issyen
Ghost Sniper
House Shyeel Magister
House Shyeel Magister
Madelyn Corbeau, Ordic Courtesan
Mage Hunter Assassin
Mage Hunter Assassin
Narn, Mage Hunter of Ios
Nayl

Rundown.
My opponent was most hurt by not redirecting his forces after the flag disappeared. I left my Black Dragons over there to tie everything up while my two clamjacks contested the other two and slowly killed/bulldozed his stuff…headbutts for the win. Eventually Garyth rushed me and feated, but I just blinded him and got right back in his face. He Apparition/Intrigue moved away and ran for his life while I started slowly scoring points. Eventually won via scenario, but I had to kill almost his whole army to do it, and Butcher never contributed to the zones, only ever gave out focus and hid. Until very late game when I had to kill an Assassin, Thane, Magister, and Holt in one fell sweep.

The tournament was called at that point but I stayed and played a game against Edge for funzies. He wanted to see how Cav worked so I have his Horselords vs. pSorsha. My dice finally ran out of steam and his were good at all the right times, eventually killing Vlad after a failed attempt to kill his Conquest. This was mostly a game to give out pointers, but it illustrates the weaknesses of horselords. Boosted guns + Control can do a number on it. Proving to me that it is the right call to drop it from my rotation.
